Fund raising has moved along quickly for the Boone County Trails project, and bids for constructing the trail will be opened next Thursday, May 3, at the Albion City Hall.
The initial $340,000 fund raising goal was met earlier this month.
Rex Mahoney, chairman of the Trails Committee, said committee members walked the 1.8-mile route last week to mark the trail locations.
The committee’s next meeting will be Thursday, May 3, at 5 p.m. to review the bids.
About $177,500, or more than half of the funds for this project, were secured by November of 2017, and much of the remaining funds were secured early in 2018.
This trail project includes loops around the Boone County Fairgrounds property, as well as Fuller Park in Albion. Although it is a joint project between the city and county, the city will take the lead in construction.
The trail will make use of existing concrete sidewalks where possible. The plan is to widen sidewalks that are less than eight feet wide along the east side of Fuller Park, and in a portion of the fairgrounds between the Event Center and grandstand.
