Miss Nebraska Allison Tietjen of Chester was the special guest speaker at the annual Boone Central TeamMates Banquet Sunday evening, April 29, at the Cardinal Inn conference center.
In her speech, “Becoming the Best Version of You,” Tietjen stressed the need for learning from positive role models, which organizations like TeamMates provide.
“I was quiet and shy when I was younger, but I had an adult in my life who believed in me and what I could be,” she said.
Although not a member of TeamMates while in school, she said the positive feedback from an adult helped her gain confidence.
“We all need those positive role models in order to become more positive people ourselves,” she said, adding that students should also learn to be humble, even if they are the best at a particular activity or sport.
Tietjen said she has been proud to represent Nebraska and considers it a “very special state.”
