While Boone Central Schools officials are determining the best means of heating the middle school building at Petersburg, there has been no discussion of closing that facility, according to Superintendent Nicole Hardwick.
Discussion of the Petersburg campus was held during the Boone Central School Board’s monthly meeting Monday night, May 14, at Albion.
The Petersburg building’s steam boiler is leaking due to corrosion. If the current steam heat system is to be retained, the boiler needs to be replaced.
However, Superintendent Hardwick said she wants to look at all alternatives and options for the heating system and the building itself.
“Part of this process is to analyze all costs associated with that building,” said Hardwick. “The current steam boiler is 40 years old, and the piping is much older than that. We need to look at all options and efficiencies.”
Some 14 school district patrons, mostly from the Petersburg area, were on hand for the meeting.
