Alumni events set Saturday, June 16

Special events are planned in Albion for “Alumni Saturday” on June 16.
Most events are open to the public, and all area residents are invited to join in.
The seventh annual Louis Hoppe Memorial 5K run will be Saturday morning, starting and finishing at Fuller Park in Albion. Theme of this year’s run is “Superhero and Sidekick.” Participants are invited to dress as their favorite superhero.
There will be prizes for fastest female and male runner, and for best costume. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. The kids race begins at 9 a.m., and the adult race starts at 9:30 a.m.
The ninth annual Smoke n Chrome show and shine will be held downtown from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on East Main Street and Third Street. The event is open to cars, pickups and motorcycles of all types, and in any stage of restoration. There is no entry fee.
There will be music throughout the day, along with prize drawings.
Last year’s Smoke n Chrome event attracted about 140 vehicles and attendance was estimated at 600.
