BC/NG softball team tops Ord

Claire Choat plated four runs and Keiley Tisthammer delivered four innings of relief as Boone Central/Newman Grove defeated Ord 13-6 Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the Albion Sports Complex.
Boone Central/Newman Grove (16-6) had a strong start, taking a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning on consecutive singles by Emily Groeteke, Choat, Karlie Tisthammer, Brooke Groth and Keiley Tisthammer. Stephanie Wright and Lauren Hedlund crossed the plate in the second to stretch the Cardinal lead to 5-1.
Ord closed to 5-4 with three runs in the top of the third, but BC/NG answered with Groeteke’s single and run in the fourth and a six-run outburst in the sixth. Leighann Miller cracked an RBI double in the big inning and Choat added a two-run single.
Groth opened on the mound for the Cardinals, allowing four runs on five hits over three innings. Tisthammer relieved in the fourth and did not allow a hit in the final four frames. The Card senior walked seven and struck out seven.
Choat and Groeteke each had three hits to lead BC/NG at the plate. Hedlund scored three times and Groeteke, Choat and Wright all crossed the plate twice.
