West Point-Beemer blanks Cardinals

The Boone Central/Newman Grove Cardinals gave a solid defensive effort, but generated little offense and dropped a 14-0 decision to host West Point-Beemer in a key C1-3 District game Friday.
Boone Central/Newman Grove (3-3) totaled a season-low 109 yards in the contest, punted four times and lost a season-high four fumbles. The Cardinal defense pitched a second-half shutout and intercepted three Cadet passes, but it was not enough.
“Tough loss,” acknowledged Cardinal Coach Mark Hudson. “The kids played really inspired football in the second half though – especially the defense. We struggled to move the ball and will need to keep working on reads and getting the right personnel in the right spots to take advantage of matchups.
“I’m proud the boys played hard until the end.”
