George D. Parli, a longtime Albion resident, was honored as the 2018 Living Veteran by American Legion Post 162 and VFW Post 736 during the Veterans Day program at Boone Central Monday.
The award was announced by Marion Kunzman, the 2018 Living Auxiliary Member recipient.
A flag-raising ceremony in honor of Parli was held after the program in Albion’s downtown mini-park. His flag will fly there until the next local auxiliary member is honored on Memorial Day.
George, now 87, served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1950-54, spending time in Guam and Japan. His job classification was aircraft sheet metal worker, and he received the Korean Service Medal with one battle star, National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
