Trojans down BCNG boys in Mid-State tilt

A generally inexperienced Boone Central/Newman Grove basketball team had trouble putting the ball through the hoop in a season-opening 56-33 loss to Mid-State Conference foe Cedar Catholic Friday at Hartington.
Although Coach Justin Harris felt the Cardinals did a number of positive things in the contest and stayed right with the hosts in the first half, poor shooting eventually caught up to BCNG.
Cedar Catholic took a slim 12-8 lead after one quarter of play and maintained a 22-18 halftime edge, but outscored Boone Central/Newman Grove 18-11 in the third period and finished the contest with a 16-4 blitz.
“We did some good things, but there are some key issues we need to clean up and address,” Harris said. “We were able to get half of our shots in the paint, we just weren’t able to convert. Although we did have some careless turnovers, we won the turnover battle.
“We are going to continue to teach, learn and evaluate to help prepare us to be better.”
