Local tree is lighting up the Nebraska State Capitol

CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING — Along with their family and friends, Kathy and Ron Benson traveled to Lincoln last Sunday, Dec. 9, to watch as their donated tree was lit at the 71st Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at the Nebraska State Capitol. The tree, planted by Ron’s late father, Allen Benson, was cut down Tuesday, Dec. 4 to be taken to the Capitol. The tree was decorated with 169 ornaments created by artists across the state. Each represents Nebraska’s agricultural, natural and social history. All of the different ornaments on the tree were photographed and will be on the State’s website after Christmas, along with statements from each artist. The ceremony featured performances by students at Norris High School, Waverly Singers and the Inspiration Middle School Show Choir.
