Card wrestlers solid 3rd in Newman Grove Invite

Boone Central/Newman Grove regrouped from the brief holiday break and notched a solid third place finish in the Newman Grove Invitational Saturday.
Vieing in a competitive 11-team field, the Cardinals scored 170.5 points, finishing behind only powerful Logan View (278) and the Millard South JV (210).
Card senior Jon Merten continued his impressive campaign at 220 pounds, improving to 19-0 and winning the weight class with five victories, four by pin.
“With only one practice to prepare, I feel like the team did a great job maintaining endurance and technique,” BCNG Coach Josh Majerus praised. “The holidays can be hard on wrestlers, but the team stayed disciplined and got after it.
“It’s always nice to bring home hardware. We were able to face a very tough Logan View team, who we will also face down the stretch at district. I felt we battled right with them.”
Gavin Dozler (106), Will Grape (120), Ethan Dozler (160) and Dalton Rassmussen (285) all earned runner-up honors for Boone Central/Newman Grove. In all, the Cardinals had nine wrestlers place in the top four of their respective weight classes.
