Cardinal wrestlers 3rd at Gibbon

The Boone Central/Newman Grove Cardinals had a successful trek west Saturday, placing a strong third in the Gibbon Bill Foster Invite with a pair of individual champions.
BCNG scored 157.5 points in the competition, trailing only champion Ord (169.5) and Thayer Central (163.5).
“Overall, a great day … we lost a few spots where we could have earned wins, but overall the team wrestled better than expected on paper,” Cardinal Coach Josh Majerus commented. “We placed third out of 13 teams and had eight individuals bring home medals.
“Jon Merten and Ethan Dozler won their weight classes, and Jon pinned his 100th career victory!”
Merten dominated the 220-pound division, improving his season record to 27-2 with three falls. Dozler (28-4) took gold at 160 pounds, pinning two opponents and earning a tough 1-0 decision in the finals.
