Boone Central FCCLA members compete at District STAR

Boone Central FCCLA members attending the recent District 5 STAR Events Competition were (front, l.-r.) Thirteen students from Boone Central School recently attended the Nebraska Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America District 5 STAR Events Competition.
This annual event was held at High Plains Community Schools in Polk on Wednesday, Feb. 6 and featured nearly 200 students from the area.
Competitions in FCCLA are called STAR Events: Students Taking Action with Recognition. STAR Events recognize members for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through cooperative, individualized, and competitive activities. District 5 hosted 25 events with 44 categories during the conference.
Students are evaluated by judges using a rubric system and have the opportunity to earn a Gold, Silver or Bronze rating.
Boone Central students received the following rating in their respective categories:
Advocacy Junior: Madisyn Cunningham and Sophia Gentrup, Top Silver – State Qualifiers; Career Investigation Junior: Rachel Malander, Top Gold – State Qualifier; Focus on Children Junior: Jayde Tech and Krista Reynoldson, Top Gold – State Qualifiers; Interpersonal Communications Junior: Brittany Preister, Silver – State Qualifier; Job Interview Senior: Emma David, Silver – State Qualifier; Parliamentary Procedure Senior: Brooke Groth, Destiny Umbarger, Emilie Kelley, Erin Reynoldson, Samantha Weeder, and Brittany Preister, Top Silver – State Qualifiers; Recycle and Redesign Senior: Cheyenne Ruhnke, Silver – State Qualifier.
