Commissioners adopt 2019 road program

At their meeting Tuesday, Feb. 19, the Boone County Board of Commissioners approved the county’s One and Six Year Road Improvement Program presented by Highway Superintendent Stacey Ziemba, who was present at the meeting to discuss the details of the projects listed in the plan.
Ziemba said the plan serves as a guideline and that there’s always the possibility of a change occurring due to unforeseen circumstances.
One-Year Plan
Projects in the One Year plan are:
• Replace wooden structure with twin barrel concrete block culvert at 130th St., estimated cost: $90,000.
• Replacement of an under 20 foot bridge with a concrete block culvert at 190th Ave., north of 270th St., estimated cost: $70,000.
• Tear out existing structure and replace with a concrete block culvert at 260th St. east of 330th Ave., estimated cost: $70,000.
• Remove existing bridge and install a concrete block culvert at 150th St. east of 330th Ave., estimated cost: $160,000.
• Road resurfacing; milling, resurfacing, shoulder work at 145th St., four miles going west of Petersburg from 210th Ave. to 170th Ave., estimated cost: $3.6 million.
• Road improvement; dig ditch, build up road to increase drainage, remove trees at 340th St. for 3/4 mile going west from 130th Ave., estimated cost: $5,000.
• Culvert structure; tear out existing structure and replace with concrete block culvert at 310th St. east of 175th Ave. 1/4 mile, estimated cost: $70,000.
• Tear out existing structure and replace concrete block culvert at 260th Ave., 1/4 mile north of 120th St., estimated cost: $70,000.
• Ditch work; install culverts in driveways, fix drainage issues at 300th St. between 130th Ave. and 140th Ave., for one-half mile, estimated cost: $15,000.
• Dig deeper ditches, build up road and add culverts at Twp. 20N, R8W, Sections southeast quarter 25 and northeast quarter 36, estimated cost: $25,000.
Six-Year Plan
Projects in the Six Year plan are:
• Road improvement, rebuild road and ditch work at 190th Ave., estimated cost: $20,000.
• Replace wood deck with pre-cast slab deck with channel guard rails at 180th St. east of 260th Ave., estimated cost: $80,000.
• Redo the intersection at 260th St. and Highway 14 intersection, (Cargill Road), estimated cost: $308,000.
• Cattle pass, tear out existing cattle pass and replace with a new small concrete block culvert single barrel cattle pass at 180th St., two-thirds of a mile west of 290th Ave., estimated cost: $60,000.
• Culvert structure; remove existing culvert structure and replace with a 40 ft. bridge at 320th Ave., from 350th St. going south, estimated cost: $350,000.
