The Boone Central boys golf team has very little experience this spring, but Coach Dennis Walters and his nine golfers have been doing their best to work around inclement weather conditions and prepare for the 2019 season.
Walters has just two lettermen returning from his 2018 squad, so the new season will be a learning experience for the majority of the Cardinals.
Senior lettermen Braden Anderson and Kade Noble should anchor the Boone Central varsity. Anderson figures to be the Card leader after medaling individually in four tournaments last season.
Beyond that, Walters will search for younger players to step up and round out the squad.
“We only have the two lettermen returning, but I think we can compete in Class C,” Walters noted. “After those top two, we will be very inexperienced. We’re not really sure yet who the other contributors will be because of the lack of experience.”
Vieing for positions in the Cardinal lineup will be seniors Curtis Kratochvil and Garett Niewohner, sophomores Caleb Kohl and Bradley Schindel, and freshmen Jacob Devine, James Erickson and Tristan Shively.
Due to the recent flooding in Nebraska, Boone Central’s scheduled opening meet at Norfolk was cancelled. The Cardinals will host the annual Boone Central Invitational Saturday, April 13 at the Albion Country Club. BC was scheduled to have four home meets this spring, including a dual with Ord April 5, a quadrangular April 9 and a triangular April 29. Walters says a number of events from the original schedule are still in flux due to course conditions, and a number of meets, including those scheduled in Albion, could change.
