Cardinals dominate at Madison triangular track/field

The Boone Central/Newman Grove track and field teams kicked off the 2019 spring season with team victories in a triangular at Madison Tuesday, March 26, winning 19 individual events.
“The teams had a great day at the Madison triangular. The girls won 10 events and the boys won nine,” Cardinal Coach Justin DeWitt commented. “With the warmer weather, we were able to practice outside more and improve our conditioning and form.
“Lots of kids showed great improvement. Their hard work is paying off.”
Unfortunately, the Cardinals couldn’t follow up this past weekend, as cold and wet weather moved back into the area and forced the annual Mansfield Invite to be postponed to April 8.
The Boone Central/Newman Grove girls scored 88 points at Madison, finishing in front of the Norfolk High Sophomores (72) and Madison (14). The Cardinal boys tallied 77 points and were trailed by the Norfolk Sophomores (71) and host Dragons (23).
Among the Cards starting their outdoor seasons in impressive fashion at Madison were double-event winners Samantha Weeder (400, high jump) and Lauren Hedlund (100, 200). Other event winners for BCNG were Abby Brodersen (discus), Autumn Simons (800), Jordan Soto-Stopak (1600), Avery Olnes (100 hurdles), Jett Stuhr (triple jump), Ryan Kramer (high jump), Carsten Bird (800), Dylan Korth (pole vault), Jon Merten (discus), Dalton Rasmussen (shot put) and Wyatt Nissen (100). BCNG teams posted victories in the girls 4×400 and 4×800 relays and the boys 4×100 and 4×400, as well.
Along with their wins, Brodersen (shot put), Olnes (300 hurdles), Merten (shot put), Rasmussen (discus) and Kramer (110 hurdles) had runner-up finishes. Other Cardinals placing second were Stephanie Wright (triple jump), Penelope Dozler (100), Claire Weidner (400), Madisyn Cunningham (100 hurdles), Seth Wright (pole vault) and Cristopher Thiem (400). The girls 4×100 relay team was also runner-up.
