Bull Ride highlights Newman Grove celebration

One cowboy found himself wrong-side-up at Newman Grove’s Extreme Bull Ride event Saturday.

A well-attended Extreme Bull Ride event on Saturday night, June 8, was a highlight of the 2019 Shell Creek Valley Days three-day celebration at Newman Grove.

Events began on Friday with an antique tractor parade, followed by entertainment downtown and music in the city park. Newman Grove Fire Department sponsored fireworks Friday night.

The annual Fun Run/Walk kicked off Saturday’s activities, followed by a Kids Carnival downtown, penny dive at the pool, and the FFA Alumni Barbecue Saturday evening.

The Extreme Bull Ride, sponsored by Double S Bull Riding Co., also featured “mutton bustin” for children up to eight years old, and bull-dogging out of the chute for the older set. A street dance was held downtown Saturday night.

A riderless horse entry won first place in the Shell Creek Valley Days Parade.

Sunday events included a community church service, Lion’s Club pancake feed, tractor and car show in the park, and a parade downtown with the “Nebraska Strong” theme. A Firemen’s Feed and entertainment by Energize Dance Studio followed the parade.
