It was a tough weekend for the Albion American Legion Cornerstone Seniors in the C7 Area Tournament at Valentine.
After opening with a win, Albion lost on both Saturday and Sunday nights, exiting the tournament after the semifinals.
Albion Cornerstone, top-seeded team in the tournament, opened with a 10-0, five-inning whitewash of the Bridgeport Bombers Friday.
On Saturday, Albion Cornerstone lost a 3-2 extra-inning walkoff heartbreaker to host Valentine and dropped into the C7 losers bracket. Cornerstone rallied to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning, but Valentine scratched out a run in the bottom of the eight to claim the victory.
In the Sunday night game, Albion took a 3-2 lead with three runs in the third inning against Bridgeport, only to see that lead evaporate in a wild fourth inning that saw Bridgeport score five runs on an error, a wild pitch and three singles. Albion battled back to score two runs in the sixth, but could not overcome the lead and bowed out of the tournament with a 7-5 loss.
