City enforcing nuisance code

City of Albion is enforcing its nuisance ordinance on several properties that were declared as nuisances at the city council’s June 11 meeting.
Darren Wright, city attorney, reported on Aug. 13 that remediation deadlines had passed. One of the properties is being cleaned up by a private contractor and others will be cleaned up as well. Charges for the clean-up will be assessed back to the properties.
Mayor Jim Jarecki said a contracted building inspector will be here after Sept. 1 to inspect any possibly unsafe structures, and demolition is likely to be ordered on at least one structure.
There were no reports from the police department of additional nuisance properties at the Aug. 13 council meeting.
