A young St. Edward football team opened the 2019 Six-Man Football season Friday with a 50-6 home loss to the Sterling Jets.
Sterling, ranked seventh in the six-man Top 10 this week, was dominant from the start, racing to a 20-0 first quarter lead and building that advantage to 44-0 by intermission. St. Edward scored a lone late touchdown when Alias Schumacher was able to break free on a 62-yard run.
St. Edward rushed for 114 yards and added just seven yards through the air.
Schumacher’s 62 yards (2 att.) led the Beavers. Isaac Roberts added 41 yards (6 att.) and Will Lawrence 20 (9 att.). Trey Divis completed his only pass attempt for seven yards, with Roberts on the receiving end. Lawrence had a 45-yard kickoff return in the contest.
Defensively, tackle leaders for St. Edward were Cole Mowrey (6 solo, 4 assists), Payton Fitchner (3, 2), Roberts (2, 3), Brandon Merrell (2, 2) and Schumacher (2, 2).
