Boone Central boosted its season record to 7-4 with a 2-2 result this past week, and although the Cardinals won only one of three games in the Lakeview tournament Saturday, Coach Jeff Hrabik was pleased with his team’s efforts.
“Overall, we played well all week. Our defense stayed solid and the bats were good,” Hrabik commented. “Saturday, we played some tougher competition and competed well. We beat Logan View/Scribner-Snyder pretty handily, as we hammered their pitching. We were close all the way with York, and in our game vs. Duchesne Academy, they just found a lot of gaps we couldn’t match.
“This week will be our toughest yet with Wayne, NEN and the Northwest Invite. I look forward to the challenges.”
Boone Central began the past week with a solid 6-2 victory over O’Neill Tuesday, Sept. 10, at the Albion Sports Complex. The Cards broke open a scoreless duel with two runs in the fourth inning and three in the fifth.
The Cardinals opened Saturday’s Lakeview tourney with a rousing 13-1 victory over Logan View/Scribner-Snyder. BC got out of the gate quickly and wrapped up the three-inning decision with a six-run third.
Boone Central again began quickly in its second game, but a five-run fourth inning propelled the York Dukes to a 10-7 victory.
Duchesne Academy grabbed early momentum and shut down Boone Central 11-0 (4 innings) in Saturday’s finale. Duchesne scored three times in each of the first two innings, then added five in the fourth while allowing the Cardinals just four total hits.
