NG City Council approves budget

Newman Grove City Council adopted the 2019-20 city budget and moved ahead with bonding for city street work during its monthly meeting Thursday night, Sept. 12.
No changes were made in the proposed budget, and there were no public comments at the hearing. The council suspended the rules requiring three readings and adopted the new budget on a 4-0 vote.
Like many governmental subdivisions, Newman Grove is planning to spend more money on street repairs for the coming year. Budgeted disbursements and transfers (operating budget) for the coming year is $3,201,337, representing an increase of nearly $1.5 million over the 2018-19 budget of $1,703,129.
The city’s property tax request is set at $105,312, which is an increase of $4,579 or five percent over last year’s request of $100,633.
The city’s valuation also increased by five percent or $1,039,807 to a total of $23,402,661 for 2019-20. The city’s tax rate will remain at .45 per $100, the same as last year.
