4-Hers receive honors, awards at Achievement Party

NATIONAL QUALIFIERS — Boone County Senior Livestock Quiz Bowl team of, l.-r., Roy Cumming, Cody Maricle, Dustin Andreasen and Carson Maricle qualified to compete in the national contest this fall. They held a labor auction during the 4-H Achievement Party to raise funds for their trip to Louisville, KY.
Boone County 4-H families gathered for the annual 4-H Achievement Party on Sunday, Sept. 22, at the Boone County Fairgrounds in Albion.
Many local 4-H members, leaders and volunteers were recognized for their special efforts and years of participation in the 4-H program.
Hamburgers and hot dogs were served, compliments of Farm Credit Services of America and the Boone County 4-H Council.
Albion News received the 2019 Boone County Heart of 4-H Award for 2019. Steve Pritchard, Extension Educator in Boone and Nance Counties, said the News has published and featured many area 4-H and Extension events over the years. This year, the News produced a special Fair 4-H Edition to recognize youth achievements.
Other awards presented included: Beef Herdsmanship – Mark Benes family; Sheep Herdsmanship – Dan Fogleman family; Swine Herdsmanship – Cody Gulbrandson family, and Goat Herdsmanship – Brian Ketelsen family.
Also recognized were first year Clover Kids, 4-H members, leaders, and 4-H Council members.
