Undefeated Card girls fly to another West Holt title

West Holt’s cross country course at the Atkinson-Stuart Country Club has been a personal playground for the Boone Central girls program in recent years.
The Cardinals continued their romps across the western flats Thursday, winning their sixth straight West Holt championship and remaining unbeaten in 2019.
It was not an easy task for Boone Central, which edged Ainsworth 23-26 – the Cards’ second-closest winning margin this season. BC earned the championship with three top-five finishes and a fourth runner taking 15th place.
Boone Central’s boys had their best day of the year, as well. The Cardinals placed third in the team standings, despite missing their #1 runner (Bradley Schindel) due to injury precautions.
“I was extremely happy with the boys this week. They pushed themselves to finish third, which is our best result of the year,” Cardinal Coach Justin Harris commented. “Harrison Dodds and Caleb Kohl ran well and earned their first varsity medals. Harrison ran two minutes faster on the course than last year.
“The girls ran well and won the meet for the sixth consecutive year. Ainsworth, Bloomfield/Wausa and Ord are all tough teams. Ord’s best runner didn’t finish, but it was a chance for us to see them prior to district.”
