The Boone Central Cardinals had a sluggish start this past week, but finished on a high note by defeating West Holt in their final regular-season road game of the season.
Boone Central (6-17) hosted a triangular Tuesday, Oct. 8, and dropped a 25-13, 26-24 decision to Wayne (23-4) in the night’s opener. The Cardinals were very competitive in the second set and held a late lead before the ranked Blue Devils reeled off seven straight points to win.
Paige Nelson directed the attack with 11 assists, while Natalee Luettel (5) topped kills.
In a hard-fought second match, Boone Central defeated Pierce (7-16) 25-22 in the first set, but the Bluejays rallied to post 25-20, 25-23 wins and take the overall victory. The Cardinals had a strong match at the net with 31 kills, including 11 by Luettel and seven by Caitlin Nelson.
Boone Central made a long trek to Atkinson West Holt (4-17) worthwhile Thursday by sweeping the host Huskies 25-22, 25-6, 25-21. BC gave one of its best attack performances of the season with 38 kills, led by Caitlin Nelson’s 15 and 13 by Ranslem. Paige Nelson had 29 set assists and Weidner served four aces. On the defensive side, Caitlin Nelson made three blocks and Duerksen (14) led digs. Ranslem, Paige Nelson, Weidner and Luettel all made six digs.
