Seniors of Newman Grove attended County Government Day on Oct. 9 at the Madison County Courthouse, along with students from Madison, Norfolk Catholic, Lutheran High Northeast and Battle Creek.
The students started the morning with the Pledge of Allegiance then were sworn into their offices. They met with their various county officers, learned about the probation system, and viewed the Madison County Jail and Juvenile Detention Center. In the detention center, they learned what the inmates wear and what they are given when they arrive. They also toured the cells, outdoor recreation center and library. A District Court member also explained the county’s process in dealing with students who are truant or expelled from school.
After lunch at the Madison City Auditorium, a guest speaker explained how they can be successful citizens and make their county better.
