Cardinals awarded All-District honors

Four Boone Central Cardinals were selected for the C1-3 All-District 1st Team, and another three received 2nd Team honors, in recent voting by district coaches.
Seniors Dylan Korth (TE), Chase Thieman (DE) and Blaine Young (LB), and junior Ryan Kramer WR), were Boone Central’s All-District award winners. Junior TJ Weber (OL) and sophomores Braden Benes (QB) and Carsten Bird (WR) were second-team picks.
Boone Central finished the 2019 season 2-7, losing games to four Class C1 state playoff teams (Aurora, Ord, Pierce, Wayne), plus two squads – Lakeview, West Point-Beemer – who just missed playoff berths. Playoff semifinalists Pierce and Wayne, along with West Point-Beemer, were members of the C1-3 District.
Blaine Young and Chase Thieman were two of the leaders for the Cardinal defense this past season. Young topped Boone Central in total tackles (56), solo tackles (40) and assisted tackles (32), and registered four tackles-for-loss. He also rushed for 289 yards (4.3 ypc) and four touchdowns. Thieman was second in total tackles (51.5), solo stops (37) and assists (29), and led the Cards with nine tackles-for-loss.
Dylan Korth and Ryan Kramer were mainstays of an offense that passed for 1,365 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2019. Kramer gained a team-high 413 yards on 27 receptions and Korth caught 26 passes for 408 yards. Both players had four receiving touchdowns. Kramer also led Cardinal scoring (40 pts on 4 TDs, 13 PATs, 1 FG). Korth was fourth in total tackles (40) and solo tackles (30).
Braden Benes led Boone Central in total yards (1,746). He was the Cards’ leading rusher (453 yards, 3.5 ypc) and completed 116-of-198 passes (58.5%) for 1,293 yards, 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Carsten Bird topped the Cardinals with 28 receptions for 252 yards and registered 22.5 total tackles (17 solo). He led defenders with four pass breakups. TJ Weber was a two-way lineman that helped the Boone Central offense gain 2,435 yards and score 19 touchdowns this past season. He also finished with two solo tackles and two assists.
