Mayor, police chief resign at Nov. 14 council session

Two resignations were submitted at the Newman Grove City Council meeting last Thursday night, Nov. 14.
Mayor John Wyant submitted his letter of resignation at the end of the meeting. He resigned, effective Nov. 14, due to health and personal reasons.
The council will hold a special meeting this Friday, Nov. 22, to accept Wyant’s resignation and discuss appointment of an additional council member. The council president assumes the mayor’s duties in his absence.
An appointment to the council could be considered as early as the council’s next regular meeting on Dec. 12.
The council approved Police Chief Michael Pohlen’s letter of resignation on Thursday night. Pohlen’s resignation will be effective Dec. 28, 2019. He plans to accept a position as deputy sheriff with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department in the corrections division.
