The Boone Central bowling teams continued their 2019-20 season with Nebraska High School Bowling Association Pod Tournament competition at Wildcat Lanes in Wayne Saturday, Nov. 23.
The Cardinal girls enjoyed an excellent day, placing second in the varsity competition behind only host Wayne. Girls varsity team scores were Wayne 1,478, Boone Central 1,442, Norfolk Catholic 1,273, Newman Grove 1,239 and Hartington 1,031.
Among individuals, Boone Central’s Niah Kahlandt placed second, Shaylyn Cornwell tied for third and Destiny Umbarger was sixth.
“The girls varsity had a great day. The baker games were almost 200 pins more than the previous week, and the total score was almost 300 pins higher,” praised Boone Central Co-Coach Chrissy Rasmussen.
The Boone Central varsity boys did not finish as high in the team standings against some tough competition, but Card Co-Coach Matt Grosch feels the team is showing improvement.
“The boys are improving, but were up against some hard teams at Wayne,” Grosch commented. “We were missing two seniors, with Garrett (Grosch) the only one at Wayne. Garrett had two good scores – 161 and 131 – and James Erickson had our high game score and high series.
“Our started our first two baker games out strong, but lost steam in the last three.”
Boone Central totaled 1,395.5 pins in the varsity competition, with 50 percent of the individual series score (760.5) added to the baker series total (635). Boys varsity team scores were Wayne 1,572.5, Hartington 1,554, Norfolk Catholic 1,454.5, Wisner-Pilger 1,399 and Boone Central 1,395.5.
