Newman Grove school construction slowed by weather

Base concrete work has been completed for the Newman Grove School addition, and block work is underway for the building. Above this northeast corner will be the new elementary playground area.

Construction progress on the Newman Grove Public School addition has been slowed by weather conditions, but all concrete foundations are now complete, and a block wall for the building is now being laid.
Hausmann Construction of Lincoln is the general contractor for the 18,200 square foot addition. Masonry, electrical and plumbing subcontractors are working on-site.
The addition will contain classrooms for preschool, kindergarten, first, second, third and fourth grades, as well as Special Education facilities to include a resource room, classroom and specialty offices. The new elementary playground will be located east of the new classroom area.
The northwest part of the addition will include a new main entrance, as well as administrative and secretarial offices.
Once the addition is completed, the current administrative offices will be remodeled into an area for music, speech, drama and art classes, with direct access to the stage.
The original goal for building completion was August of 2020 in time for the start of the 2020-21 school year. However, Superintendent Mikal Shalikow said that goal does not appear reachable at this point unless there is a very mild winter. It is now more likely that the addition will completed in October or November of 2020.
Newman Grove School District voters approved the $9.5 million bond issue for school construction in May of 2018, and the first portion completed was the ag education and shop facility last summer.
