Newman Grove

Churches sponsor Live Nativity Wednesday, Dec. 4

Carolers providing music during the Live Nativity at Newman Grove were, l.-r., Delilah Broders, Ma Glyn Steensnes, Miranda Nelson and Wyatt Nelson.

The 12th annual Live Nativity presented by Salem, Shell Creek and Zion Lutheran Churches was held at Zion Lutheran Church in Newman Grove on Wednesday evening, Dec. 4. This year’s program was entitled “Christ is the Heart of Christmas.”
Again this year, special guests from the Horn T Zoo were welcomed to the cast. They included “Tamone” the donkey willingly made the trip to Bethlehem on that cold winter night, and “Izzy” the camel leading the Three Wisemen to find the Christ Child. A goat owned by shepherd Jace Forre also made an appearance.
Janice Kleveland and Barb Masilko were greeters. Crew members were John Williamson, music; Wayne Rankin, props; and Cindy Fowlkes, cast co-coordinator and lighting director. Pastor Becky Beckmann and Connie Rankin were co-directors.
The cast included more than 30 area adults and children.
The presentation was repeated on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Mid-Nebraska Lutheran Home, with some different cast members. Pastor Becky Beckmann played the role of a pastor trying to come up with a new angle to use for Christmas this year. It took Santa to remind her that she was trying too hard—it was as simple as telling and retelling the story of Jesus’s birth
