Area blood donors went “all out” in giving blood last week at three Red Cross blood drives in Albion.
“It was an awesome job by the Albion community and surrounding donors,” said co-coordinator Diane Krings. “A total of 177 units of blood were collected, potentially saving 531 lives in one week!”
The three blood drives held in Albion last week were the Community Blood Drive on Monday, Jan. 13, collecting 97 units; the Boone County Health Center drive collecting 47 units on Wednesday, Jan. 15; and the Sentinel Building Systems plant blood drive on Thursday, Jan. 17, collecting 33 units.
Donor recruitment manager Nicole Johnk sent an email out to all of her other managers stating: “Please don’t write off your small communities thinking they can’t do another drive; this was a great week in Albion.”
“As blood drive coordinators, we cannot thank our donors enough for volunteering their time to come and donate when the need is so crucial,” said co-coordinator Mary Urwin.
