It was a battle. At Battle Creek. Well worth the effort.
Boone Central wrestlers scrapped their way to a solid third-place finish in the 2020 Mid-State Conference Championships Thursday, earning praised from Cardinal Coach Josh Majerus.
“The team did very well, placing third behind Pierce and O’Neill. We beat a tough Battle Creek team that was in the State Duals,” Majerus said. “Gavin Dozler wrestled lights-out, defeating the Class B #4 rated kid from Pierce who had beat us two times earlier this season.
“It was awesome! Gavin is tough because he is fast and never stops moving. I’m excited to see where he takes himself in the next few weeks.
“We had two wrestlers get second, four place third and one take home fourth.
“Well done boys!”
Dozler led the way for Boone Central as the 113-pound champion. Ted Hemmingsen (106) and Taylor Weber (195) were runners-up, with Will Grape (126), Ashton Schafer (152), Richard Cleveland (170) and Cole Greek (285) placing third. Jaxon Schafer (132) took fourth place.
Boone Central will compete in the C-3 District tournament Friday and Saturday at Oakland-Craig High School.
