County bridge replacements approved

Bids for replacement of two flood-damaged bridges were accepted by the Boone County Commissioners Monday, March 9.
The board accepted bids from Theisen Construction, Inc. of Norfolk after review by Brian McDonald, engineer with JEO Consulting Engineers. The projects and bids are:
• Cedar Rapids Northwest – replacement of a 56-foot bridge spanning the Cedar River on 150th Avenue. The Theisen bid was $352,421, or $97,579 under the engineer’s $450,000 estimate. Project start date is July 1, 2020.
• St. Edward Southwest – replacement of a bridge connecting the City of St. Edward to its sewage treatment lagoon. The Theisen bid was $98,495, or $1,505 under the engineer’s estimate of $100,000. Project start date will be June 1, 2020.
JJK Construction of Ceresco was the only other bidder on the two projects, entering bids of $469,074 on the Cedar Rapids Northwest bridge and $136,863 on the St. Edward Southwest project.
