NG Tree Board tending evergreens for future planting

Not being able to celebrate Arbor Day with the Newman Grove Elementary students, the Newman Grove Tree Board had to do things a little differently this year.
Usually, they read stories, talk about Arbor Day, and hand out tree saplings from the Lower Platte North NRD to the students.
This year, the 10 tree board members, Annette Bender, Al Elznic, Patrick Gerhart, Daryl Guthard, Joan Nelson, Manuel Rivera, Dave Schroeter, Bev Seier, Scott Sokol and Janell Wyatt, each took home four tree saplings. They will take care of them, so hopefully they can be transplanted in two years in or around the community of Newman Grove.
One of the tree board members, Joan Nelson, was able to read through Zoom “The Lorax” to her grandchildren. It’s one of the stories that tree board members traditionally read to the students.
With this month including Arbor Day and Earth Day, the tree board advises area residents to “take care of and appreciate our trees.”
