Albion summer softball teams open 2020 with victories

Softball is in the swing locally, as teams opened the delayed 2020 summer season this past week.
Albion 16/18U
Albion’s 16/18-Under team began its season by sweeping a doubleheader against Plainview Monday, June 22.
Albion 16/18U trailed 4-3 in the first game following Plainview’s four-run third inning, then rattled off five runs of its own in the fifth to rally for an eventual 8-6 victory. Ashlyn Krohn got the Albion fifth kick-started with a two-out single. The big back-to-back blows of the inning were Jeslynn Beckman’s triple and Kalli Nieman’s double.
Albion then got off to a fast start and never trailed in a 10-4 win over Plainview. Ashtyn Hedlund’s two-run triple sparked a four-run first inning and Albion pulled away with four more in the third as Caydence Guthard, Lauryn Wright and Autumn Patzel all rapped singles, and Hedlund added a two-run double.
Albion 16/18U ran its record to 3-0 Wednesday, June 24, with a 13-1 four-inning victory at Pierce.
Beckman plated two in the first inning with a double and Albion went ahead 7-1 with four runs in the second as Guthard and Krohn contributed base hits. A five-run fourth frame sealed the decision, with Addy Donnelson, Claire Weidner, and Krohn all singling, and Claire Choat and Hedlund delivering consecutive doubles.
