Boone Central grads celebrate commencement

Boone Central graduate Emily Erickson presents roses to her parents, Janelle and Joe Erickson
It was a long time coming, but the Boone Central High School class of 2020 had their time in the spotlight during commencement exercises last Sunday, June 28, in the school gym.
Special arrangements had been made for social distancing, which limited attendance mostly to families of the graduates, but the complete ceremony was held.
Class speakers Emma Potter and Destiny Umbarger noted that both local and worldwide events had an impact on the class of 2020.
One was the loss of classmate Brooke Groth and her mother, Lisa, in an auto accident last fall.
Another is the coronavirus pandemic that forced cancellation of special events such as prom in the spring, and delayed graduation.
Graduate Emily Pelster served as master of ceremonies.
Special awards presented at commencement included the Outstanding Student Award to Destiny Umbarger, and Scholar Athlete Awards to Lauren Hedlund and Dylan Korth.
