Middle School project among school board topics

Details of the new Boone Central Middle School plan and construction schedule were presented by remote broadcast from members of the design-build team, W.A. Klinger and DLR Group.
Presenters explained the overall building design, floor plan, clear story construction to maximize natural light, interior and exterior finishes and colors.
Preliminary total estimate of cost for the structure is $3,991,619, or about $223.02 per square foot. This estimate includes contingencies, but does not include construction of the playground area on what is now Prairie Street, north of the elementary wing. Total budget for the construction work is about $4 million.
The Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) is to be presented by early September. Completion of all construction documents is expected by Sept. 3.
The spokesman for W. A. Klinger said the goal is to install all underground utilities and pour the concrete slab by mid-October, and then begin erection of the steel structure before cold weather hits.
The board adopted the building design and budget.
School opening for the 2020-21 school year and the safety measures to avoid the coronavirus were also discussed at length.
