County board begins budget preparations

Consideration of Boone County’s 2020-21 budget started with commissioners reviewing budget requests from all county departments Monday, July 20.
The board was looking for potential budget cuts after receiving preliminary figures from Rick Martinsen, CPA with Schmeits, Mueller and Martinsen, P.C., who prepares the county budget each year.
Commissioners reviewed the Road Department budget, as well as those of other departments, with the goal of trimming down requests to stay within a three percent increase.
Commissioners noted that budget discussions will continue, and Martinsen will return for another planning session on Monday, Aug. 17. The annual public hearing on the 2020-21 county budget will be held Monday, Sept. 14.
