School Board hears request to add baseball

More than 20 students and parents were on hand for the Boone Central School Board meeting Monday night, Aug. 10, to request that baseball be added to the list of spring sports.
Jenny Grape stated that baseball is the favorite sport of many boys at all age levels in Boone Central, and asked the board to consider adding the sport “either on our own or in a co-op” with a neighboring school.
She noted that Twin River High School has a baseball program and would be interested in a co-op. Some Boone Central boys have played in the same programs with them.
“There has been a desire for baseball for a long time, and we have some incredible athletes in that sport,” she said, noting that some Boone Central students are also playing on area traveling teams.
Some have ambitions to play at the college level, she said. While Albion has an outstanding American Legion baseball program, she noted that most college coaches look for recruits from high school programs.
Also speaking in favor of adding the baseball program were Carson Bird, Jason Miller and Samuel Grape.
The board took the request under advisement.
