Ahlers, Brodersen, Cards open 2020 as golf winners

Abby Brodersen

Wow!
What an opening day!
Senior Abby Brodersen struck gold and led Boone Central to the O’Neill Invitational golf championship Thursday, Aug. 20, at the O’Neill Country Club.
With the victories, the Cardinals presented Coach Amy Ahlers, a former Boone Central golf standout herself, with championships in the first meet of her high school head coaching career.
“I am really proud of how the girls put everything together in this first meet,” Ahlers said. “They have put in extra time this summer and have been working hard in practice.
“To see it pay off is so much fun!”
Brodersen began her senior season in high style, carding an 18-hole score of 77 and winning the individual gold medal by a whopping 13 strokes over Megan Lutt of Battle Creek (90).
With Brodersen’s score as an anchor, Boone Central posted a 403 team total, 16 strokes in front of second-place Battle Creek (419). The Cardinals had four players place inside the top sixteen. Joining Brodersen in Boone Central’s final team tally were Taylor Beierman (11th, 106), Lauren Kohtz (15th, 110) and Emmah Benson (16th, 110). Rachel Malander carded a 127.
