Cardinal girls run to win in Boone Central Invite

Cardinal senior Jordan Stopak manuevers through a small pack of runners during the early portion of Friday’s Boone Central Invitational cross country meet at the Albion Country Club.
It was right back where they left off Friday.
The Boone Central girls cross country team, which concluded an undefeated 2019 season with the Class C state championship, won the 2020 season-opening Boone Central Invitational at the Albion Country Club by a handy margin.
The Lady Cardinals battled through the hot weather conditions to total 27 points in the competition, finishing well ahead of runner-up Norfolk Catholic (55) and Fullerton (58).
The Cardinals’ enviable depth proved to be the key. Boone Central placed runners 6th, 8th, 11th, 14th, 23rd and 26th in the girls race.
Pierce brought individual firepower, with runners placing first through third. The Bluejays, however, did not have a fourth varsity runner needed to compete for a team score.
“It was great to have the opportunity to compete again,” Cardinal Coach Justin Harris said.
