County property tax increase near 4%

Boone County taxpayers will see a total increase of $169,793 or about 3.98 percent in their county property tax request under the proposed 2020-21 county budget.
Since the county’s taxable property valuation declined by 4.24 percent this year, taxpayers will see an increase in the county tax levy of about .016, up from .176883 last year to .192076 this year.
A public hearing on the proposed budget and tax request will be held next Monday, Sept. 14, at 10 a.m. during the commissioners’ regular meeting at the courthouse.
This year’s total property tax request is proposed at $4,432,628, compared to last year’s request of $4,262,835. All of the county tax levy will support the General Fund this year. The General Fund levy includes $3,153,540 for the Road Fund, which cannot levy taxes.
