After battling inclement weather and a tough field of individuals and teams to a place third in the Lakeview Invitational Thursday, Sept. 10, the Boone Central girls golf team was back in the winner’s circle at Saturday’s Pierce Invitational.
Cardinal senior Abby Brodersen blitzed the field with a gold-medal round of 75 at the Pierce Golf Course, leading Boone Central (379) to a six-stroke victory over West Point-Beemer (385) in the team competition.
“Today was a good day for golf! I couldn’t be more excited about the rounds our team put together in this tournament,” praised Cardinal Coach Amy Ahlers. “It was a beautiful day, and we were able to post some solid scores. The Pierce course plays pretty similarly to our course, which helped us adjust and settle in quickly.
“I have seen a great deal of improvement in this team’s ability to bounce back and move on from mistakes. This has helped us minimize our bigger numbers and get below the 400 team mark.”
Boone Central had four golfers place in the top 20 individuals.
