St. Edward water system under ‘boil order’

On Wednesday, Oct. 28, the City of St. Edward received a “boil water” notice from the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
The city was notified that E. coli bacteria was detected in the city’s water distribution system during the month of October.
All city residents are notified they should not drink the water without boiling it first.
Bring all water to a full boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water.
This notice applies to all water used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes or food preparation.
State officials were in town to investigate the matter last week. The city will continue water testing this week. The boil notice will likely be in effect at least through this Friday, Nov. 6, and possibly longer, said Angie Miller, city clerk.
