Larry Swerczek receives ‘Living Veteran’ award

Larry Swerczek, Boone County native and U.S. Navy veteran, was honored with the annual Living Veteran award at the Veterans Day program last Wednesday, Nov. 11, in the Boone Central High School Gym.
An American flag will fly in his honor at Albion’s downtown mini-park, and a plaque to commemorate this will be installed on the flagpole.
Jill Johnson, a member of the Living Veterans’ Award Committee, made the following introductory comments:
Larry was born June 19, 1954, and is the ninth of 17 children. He graduated from Cedar Rapids High School and went on to serve as a medic in the Navy from 1972 to 1976 after training as a physician assistant and hospital OR tech in military school.
He served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged after being diagnosed with diabetes.
