Cowboy mounted shooting coming to new arena

Cowboy mounted shooting is a new event for the Boone County area. It will be coming to the Niewohner Arena at the new Boone County Agriculture and Education Center this Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 5 and 6.
Mounted shooting was created in the mid-1990s for equestrians and cowboy action shooters to participate in a competitive shooting sport while riding horseback. Contestants shoot only black powder theatrical blanks — no bullets — and attempt to break balloon targets from a range of up to 20 feet.
This event will be staged by the High Plains Shooters based in Litchfield. Some 20 to 25 contestants are expected for the two-day meet.
Action starts at 10 a.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. on Sunday.
