The Boone Central Lady Cardinals used a quick start and balanced team effort to defeat visiting Twin River 48-21 Tuesday, Dec. 15, in Albion.
For the most part, Boone Central was in control from the opening tip. The Cardinals burst to a 13-7 first-quarter lead over Twin River (0-7) and held a 21-11 halftime advantage. BC erased any doubt of the outcome with a 9-1 run following intermission and outscored the Titans 27-10 in the second half.
“We were able to score 21 points off 25 Twin River turnovers,” Cardinal Coach Andy Imus noted. “We rebounded well, with 20 offensive rebounds, and took care of the ball, with just 11 turnovers.”
Saturday’s contest against Class D1 host Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family was almost the opposite of Tuesday’s performance, resulting in a 58-36 loss to the Top 10 Bulldogs.
Humphrey/LHF forced a high number of Cardinal turnovers and controlled the boards while racing to an early 18-5 lead. The hosts led 31-16 at halftime, then sealed the win by outscoring Boone Central 19-12 in the third quarter.
“The bottom line is, we struggled to value the ball – 27 turnovers resulting in 28 Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family points,” said Imus. “We also gave up 20 offensive rebounds that resulted in 13 second chance points for them.”
