St. Edward student wins County Spelling Contest

Jerel Matchett, an eighth grader from St. Edward Public School, was first place winner in the annual Boone County Spelling Contest last Wednesday, Jan. 27, in the Boone Central Performance Gym.
Joel spelled the word “agitation” correctly to win first place. He will qualify for the Midwest Spelling Bee to be held in Omaha on March 13 under sponsorship of the Omaha World-Herald.
Placing second in the Boone County Contest was Phillip Carnley, a seventh grader at Boone Central Public School. Joel will be the alternate to the Midwest Spelling Bee in case Jerel is unable to attend.
