Bethany Borgheiinck of Boone Central highlighted district competition for the Cardinals by qualifying for the initial NSAA State Bowling Championships.
In the first year of NSAA sanctioned competition, Borgheiinck placed fourth in the A-5 District at Westbrook Lanes (Columbus) Tuesday, Feb. 2. She competed in the state championships at Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, beginning Monday.
Boone Central placed third in the girls team standings and fourth in boys team scoring, missing state team qualification. The Cardinal boys did not have any individuals qualify for state competition.
“We did not finish the season as hoped, however Bethany qualified for the state tournament as an individual,” Boone Central Coach Mikal Shalikow said. “Both teams are disappointed they did not qualify for the state tournament, but Coach (Randy) Nelson and I are extremely happy with the progress the bowlers have made.
“Both teams finished 7-7 and drastically improved through the season. The highlight for the girls was beating #1 ranked Wayne in Newman Grove. The boys all improved over the season.”
Borcheiinck registered a 435 series in the A-5 competition, sandwiching games of 167 and 160 around a 108.
