Fire destroys Brent and Trisha Martinsen home

A fire Sunday morning, Feb. 14, destroyed the Brent and Trisha Martinsen home and its contents at 3447 110th Avenue, west of Cedar Rapids near the county line.
The location is in the Primrose Rural Fire District. Primrose Volunteer Fire Department was called to the scene about 9 a.m. Sunday and found the garage fully involved in fire, which soon spread to the home’s attic and the rest of the house. Fire departments from Cedar Rapids, Greeley and Spalding were called in for mutual aid.
The family and two dogs escaped without injury.
Fire crews were hampered in fighting the blaze by sub-zero temperatures, the remote location and road conditions. Temperatures were eight to 10 degrees below zero, with north winds of eight to 10 miles per hour.
Firemen had to deal with freezing lines and equipment throughout the time on scene, according to Primrose Fire Chief Tom Naughtin. He estimated there were 12 trucks and 35 to 40 personnel on the scene. Fire fighters were on the scene until after 1 p.m.
